Abstract

Childfree is a life decision consciously chosen by individuals or couples who live without the desire to give birth or have children. The childfree concept raises problems and debates within society, especially in Indonesia, where the majority of the population adheres to Islam. This practice is considered deviant and not aligned with one of the purposes of marriage in Islam, which is to have or increase offspring. This research is qualitative, using descriptive data in the form of narratives and data analysis that reflects the reality of situations or phenomena and facts in the field. The study concludes that, according to the four schools of thought (mazhab) in Islamic law, childfree is permissible, as there is no specific verse or evidence prohibiting or forbidding it. In Islam, childfree is equated with the term 'azl, as both aim to delay pregnancy, prevent pregnancy, or avoid producing offspring.
