Abstract

This study examines the ethical values in seeking knowledge based on Muhammad Mutawalli As-Sya’rawi’s interpretation of QS Al-Kahfi verses 60-82. The issue addressed focuses on the erosion of ethical values amidst an era where knowledge is easily accessible, yet morality is often neglected. The study aims to highlight the importance of ethical principles in pursuing knowledge to ensure its application and practice bring about positive benefits. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach and thematic interpretation (tafsir maudhu’i) methodology, focusing on specific themes from the Qur'an. The findings reveal that seeking knowledge requires noble ethics, such as choosing teachers with a chain of knowledge (sanad) tracing back to Prophet Muhammad SAW, practicing patience, and prioritizing the teacher’s approval and blessings. These values are essential for preserving the quality and blessings of the acquired knowledge.
